Renegades made it through Group A after three maps, winning Mirage, 16-13, losing Cobblestone, 10-16, and sealing the deal on Inferno, 16-13.
The Group A decider match kicked off with Renegades taking an early lead on Mirage, the first map played. After winning the pistol round, they went on to win the first gun round, too, and stretched their lead to 5-0. After that, CLG was finally able to stop an A execute to get a tally on the board. At the half, Renegades went ahead, but CLG were able to stay in the match after winning seven rounds before switching sides
Having won the pistol round, CLG took the lead for the first time in the match, 10-8, after also bagging the anti-ecos. Winning the first gun round and following anti-eco, CLG quickly found themselves with the upper hand against a financially struggling Renegades. The match quickly became a brawl as Renegades buckled down on the defending side and crawled back to a standstill at 13-13.
After a tactical pause by CLG, and losing an eco, the team in blue were up 5vs3 but were brought back to a 3vs3 after a double by Aaron "AZR" Ward. Despite planting, Renegades were able to kill the last three players and defuse the bomb, taking the lead and going on to win the first map of the match, 16-13.
Renegades kicked the second map off, Cobblestone, winning the terrorist-side pistol round, and the two following anti-ecos, but the map quickly evened out as CLG won four in a row to take the lead, 4-3. A red-hot Keith "NAF" Markovic helped his team take the lead as Renegades started to pile rounds to take the half, 9-6.
CLG exploded onto A after rushing mid, and were able to win the round after planting, despite a quad kill by NAF that ended with the Canadian player fleeing the site as he was too late to defuse the bomb. After winning the anti-ecos, CLG tied it up, 9-9, going into the first gun round of the second half. Ultimately, though, it was CLG that were able to take advantage of a weak defense to run away with a 16-10 win on the map.
The last map, Inferno, started with CLG defending and Renegades attacking. Early on in the map, CLG took the reins, leading 8-2 after 10 rounds and setting the pace of the map, but Renegades were able to get it back to an acceptable 6-9 after winning four of the last five rounds.
After the switch, Renegades won the pistol round as Noah "Nifty" Francis was able to win the 1vs1 against Ethan "Ethan" Arnold, and helping his team get to a 9-9 tie after winning the anti-ecos. Winning the first gun round, Renegades took the lead. Down 10-12, CLG tried an A execute to get back in the game, but a late round triple by AZR kept the Detroit-based team in the lead. Winning the following anti-eco, Renegades took a 14-10 lead. CLG was able to win one more, but eventually Renegades closed it out, 16-11, for a spot in the playoffs.
